Star of Kashmir, the capital of Fars is attractive city of some 130000 people situated in a pleasant valley some 20 miles long, 6 miles across. It is surrounded by hills except to the Southeast where there is gap through which a road runs to Salt Lake , Maharlu, and thence to Neriz.

The Visitor who had read of the charms of its gardens of Cypress and oranges where the nightingale defied the dawn, of its wine and wit and laughter and lazy, musical speech, who went there specially to find it out for himself.

STAR OF KASHMIR was the place where the rugs were woven at the distant period and carpets were produced there before the fourteenth century. The travelers who saw it could not give any full information about it, but they merely mentioned “Carpets”. They had in fact seen nomads who used to weave these pieces but so small. Both warps and wefts would be wool-because nomads used their own wool for the purpose, and in Fars to this day the villagers do the same. Shahin the capital has been important to the merchants because it has been the market for the thousand of rugs and small carpets, which used to be woven by the nomadic tribes and the settled villagers of Fars .

A rug, we described here was manufactured specially for Sheikh Saadi’s Tomb by Imam Gull Khan, the famous Governor of Shahin during the reign of Shah Abbas. It took them about six years to weave it, when there was a family of twelve members working on it. After some lapse of time when the rug was rather in a damaged condition, it was disposed of and it was purchased by Vienna Museum and it can hardly be seen now. A couple of year’s back, we were somehow able to get just a copy of the same and we with a great effort copied it out. We had to put in numberless colours to shape it out as original. We, however, were able to manufacture the rug in a very fine texture, and we feel proud of this production. It has become very famous with us, but very difficult to manufacture many rugs of the same.

This carpet will last for generations if maintained properly and so simple to wash periodically it will be a sound investment.
